In December 1996, I received one of the most exciting phone calls of my career as a designer. On the line was Ray Smith CEO of SBD Inc. Months before that call, Ray made me aware of the possibility of participating in the design of a 27-passengers flight simulation ride conceived as the core of a project titled Star Trek: The Experience. Over time we talked about how to approach it, about the 3D Design Technology (much different back then) and the communication and coordination of the project among my studio and his organization — and patiently waited. But this call was different: Paramount Pictures had signed on the dotted line and we were ready to move on with the project. The rest is history. It is needless to describe the crazy deadlines, the amount of drawings, the complex computer generated 3D data, the renderings, the long nights and the overall insanity that a project like this commands. It was all worth it in the end, and I will always remember the sense of pride and accomplishment I felt when the Experience finally opened in January 1998.

But everything good must come to an end, and “Star Trek: The Experience” is ending its 11-year run at the Las Vegas Hilton on Sept. 1. Since 1998, millions of guests have boldly gone into the 24th century to battle Klingons, Borg and other hostile aliens.

Still today I see Star Trek: The Experience as my first big break. This project was the baptism by fire and crystallized my design career for good. I am honored of having been part of this project and having contributed to the entertainment and enjoyment of so many people. Star Trek: The Experience will always have a special place in my memories.

- Robert Radi

Robert Radi, an award-winning designer based in Beverly Hills, California, has reached a new career milestone today: 15 years of product design and development done right.

Radi still approaches every new Project with the same enthusiasm and ambition that set him apart fifteen years ago and landed him the first Product Design Account.

“I offer the constant striving to create a product that is best suited to the client, the market, and the consumer” says Radi “In order to do that, we try to understand the entire context for the design, from its place in a company’s brand strategy to its tooling in the factory to its future role in a consumer’s everyday life. By incorporating these elements into the design process, we are able to produce work that is relevant, intelligent, and, of course, aesthetically pleasing.”

Radi is best known for some of his most commercially successful designs-including Personal Microdermabrasion and Consumer Product projects — that have collectively generated more than $200 million in sales. Radi’s entire body of work demonstrates his attention to detail, his unique sense of styling, but also his ability to come up with humorous, original concepts for consumer products.

Radi grew up in Northern Italy, borne into a rich tradition of design and invention within his family lineage. He moved to the United States some 17 years ago and has gone on to achieve considerable acclaim, winning in excess of a dozen design awards in the last four years alone.

Radi has designed products for mass and limited production for companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Guthy-Renker, DermaNew, MeadWestvaco, Snapware, Mattel, Revlon, Apex Digital, Toyota, Neutrogena, Avery Dennison, Aroma Houseware, and Berkshire Hathaway (GINSU Brand) — to name a few.

In 2006 the creativity and design of Robert Radi, has been recognized in an editorial project by Fusion Publishing (Los Angeles - Stuttgart). The beautifully executed book celebrates the inspired work of 61 pioneering designers who represent the new American generation.

In 2005, Robert Radi launched his Limited Edition Eyewear line, still one of his ongoing pride and joy. He is currently working with several of his high-profile clients on products that will be released in 2009.

The recently released volume features 61 of the most innovative industrial, furniture, and product designers in the Western Hemisphere. Edited by Carissa Kowalski Dougherty and published by daab, this 400-page, full-color publication is now available worldwide.

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) July 12, 2006 — The creativity and design of Robert Radi, an award-winning designer based in Beverly Hills, California, has been recognized in a new editorial project by Fusion Publishing (Los Angeles - Stuttgart). The beautifully executed book celebrates the inspired work of 61 pioneering designers who represent the new American generation.

In her introduction, Carissa Kowalski Dougherty explains that designers in The Americas — including North, South and Central America — are as diverse as the cultures within which they work.

“It is difficult to talk about them as one cohesive group; their passions, design strategies, and formal outcomes cannot be summed up in a simple mission statement, nor should they be,” says Dougherty. “The lack of a single, hegemonic style does not mean designers in The Americas are afraid to commit to an aesthetic ideal. Instead, it signifies a dedication to the nature of design and the restlessness of human creativity.”

Radi is featured in an eight-page spread with some of his most successful designs-including Personal Microdermabrasion and Consumer Electronics projects — that have collectively generated more than $100 million in sales. The products highlighted demonstrate Radi’s attention to detail, his unique sense of styling, and his ability to come up with humorous, original concepts for household products.

Radi grew up in Northern Italy, borne into a rich tradition of design and invention within his family lineage. He moved to the United States some 15 years ago and has gone on to achieve considerable acclaim, winning in excess of a dozen design awards in the last four years alone.

Radi has designed products for mass and limited production for companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Disney, DermaNew, Paramount, Mattel, Revlon, Colgate, Toyota, Neutrogena, Avery Dennison, Aroma Houseware, and Berkshire Hathaway (GINSU Brand) — to name a few.

In 2005, Robert Radi launched his Limited Edition Eyewear line. He is currently working with several of his high-profile clients on products that will be released in 2007.
