Design Philosophy

Radi Design is a design consultancy; we provide expertise in all phases of design, beyond just creating a “sexy” exterior shell.  While being able to conceptualize a design is certainly an important first step for any industrial designer, we recognize that design extends much further than that. A real designer knows how to make a product that will succeed in the marketplace.  This means working within a real budget, with real time constraints, with real functional requirements, and with real manufacturing processes. We believe that these “realities” make design more challenging, but also more rewarding.

We approach each client with a fresh eye, adapting our design strategy to meet the specific requirements for that particular project.  There is no “magic formula” that results in a perfect design, every time—there is only the constant striving to create a product that is best suited to the client, the market, and the consumer. In order to do that, we try to understand the entire context for the design, from its place in a company’s brand strategy to its tooling in the factory to its future role in a consumer’s everyday life.  By incorporating these elements into the design process, we are able to produce work that is relevant, intelligent, and, of course, aesthetically pleasing—real products for the real world.

Robert Radi Nominated for the DesignPreis 2006

The German Ministry of Economics Nominates Robert Radi for the DesignPreis 2006

In a truly unexpected letter, designer Robert Radi has been notified by Andrej Kupetz, managing director of the German Design Council, of having received the Nomination for the DesignPreis 2006, the only official Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Mr. Radi was nominated for his excellence in product design for the Razorback “F” – Active Eyewear Goggle.

The DesignPreis 2006 of the Federal Republic of Germany is sponsored by the Federal Minister for Economics and Labor and organized by the German Design Council.

It is not possible to submit an entry for the Design Award. Instead, products must be nominated either by the ministers of economics of the individual German states or by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor.

Moreover, the product must have already won a national or international award. Thus, the Design Award is the Prize of Prizes.

Robert Radi was awarded the Good Design Award 2004 for the Razorback “F” – Active Eyewear Goggle.

The Nomination is a distinction in itself and gives the honor and privilege to use the “DesignPreis 2006 Nominee” logo on the product and strategic communication of the designer and Manufacturer.

The DesignPreis 2006 will be presented in February during the Ambiente International Consumer Goods Show in Frankfurt, Germany.
